2014 Met Gala: Best and Worst Dressed

What is Met Gala? Everyone knows about it, but not many people know what it actually is and what’s its purpose.

“The Met Gala (formally called the Costume Institute Gala) is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Β It is also a celebration for institute’s annual fashion exhibit. The Met Gala is considered as one of the most exclusive social events in New York and is regarded as “the biggest night of fashion”. It is also one of the biggest fundraising night’s of New York City (reportedly, nine million dollars were raised in 2013). Anna Wintour (editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine and chair of the event since 1995) oversees both the benefit committee and the guest list, with Vogue staffers helping assembleΒ the list of invitees. Each year the event has a theme, and includes a cocktail hour and formal dinner. In 2014 the ticket cost $25,000 per each guest.

This year’s theme was:

Charles James: Beyond Fashion.”

The biggest night of fashion had a lot to offer. From fairy-tale dresses to absolute garbage. Hollywood’s IT girl Lupita Nyong’o was the biggest and possibly the worst surprise of the night, wearing the hideous combination. Kate Upton and Rita Ora looked utterly trashy and tacky. On the other hand, Blake Lively was the most stunning at the Gala. Suki Waterhouse had a gorgeous dress and Kim Kardashian actually looked pretty nice.
